Is consent an appropriate protection for privacy?

I recently wrote about the Black Mirror episode "Joan is Awful"đŸ“ș, where the main character finds herself the protagonist of a broadcasted TV seriesđŸŽ„, for which she had allegedly given consent in the lengthy terms of service she signed.

Perhaps the best articulation of why the prevalent approach of focusing on consent is problematic, as well as its alternative, I recently found in this fantastic essay 📖 'Kafka In The Age of AI and the Futility of Privacy as Control', written by Daniel Solove and Woodrow Hartzog.
